Alex Ricklefs (California Center for Sustainable Cities, Institute of Environment of Sustainability, UCLA) opines that LA needs to reinvent its energy infrastructure in order to avoid blackouts and more natural gas leaks. He believes green microgrids are a possible solution, but warns change won’t come without its challenges. Ricklefs suggests the UCLA CCSC’s Energy Atlas can help policy makers and utilities focus their conservation or microgrid efforts.
