In drought, Los Angeles grapples with water-guzzling rich
October 15, 2016According to Reveal—a news site dedicated to exposing “water-guzzlers” in Los Angeles—100 residential water customers in the luxury neighborhoods of Los Angeles are responsible for consuming millions of gallons of water a year despite widespread conservation efforts. Stephanie Pincetl, a professor of environmental policy at UCLA, says “shaming is not really the most direct way to reduce water use.” Instead, she advocates for higher bills, fines, and forcibly shutting off wasters’ water.
