UCLA-led study explores how people with schizophrenia stay productive while managing symptoms

Misconceptions surrounding schizophrenia lead many people to believe that the disorder prevents individuals from keeping a job, pursuing higher education, and living independently. However, a new study by researchers at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and University of Southern California pinpoints strategies used by individuals with schizophrenia to lead successful lives. Study participants disclosed a few strategies to cope with and prevent symptoms including: avoiding stressful situations, avoiding alcohol and drugs, complying with prescriptions, and interacting with non-judgmental coworkers.
