UC System commits to bold sustainability targets

September 6, 2018

On September 4, 2018, the University of California (UC) public university system announced its commitment to transition to 100% renewable electricity by 2025. The commitment will be enforced systemwide across UC campuses and medical centers, and includes a pledge not to use natural gas for heat and hot water in any new buildings starting June 2019. The commitment is the first to be announced from a public university system – and with 238,000 students across 10 campuses, the UC public university system is one of the largest in the nation.
