UCLA researchers uncover important findings related to brain injuries

November 16, 2018

Researchers Xia Yang, associate professor of integrative biology and physiology, Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, professor of neurosurgery and of integrative biology and physiology, published research findings in the journal Nature Communications.

Their research investigated what happens to thousands of individual brain cells subject to brain trauma, offering a cell atlas of the hippocampus. The research enabled them to provide evidence of which cells are vulnerable, which genes alter, and which pathways are disturbed. Their research findings could provide the potential for future treatment solutions.
