On February 13, 2019, UCLA kicked off a crowdfunding campaign in support of the Sustainable LA Grand Challenge Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (SLA GC-URSP). The campaign is active through March 15, 2019, with the goal of raising $25,000.
SLA GC-URSP offers interdisciplinary research experience that equips students with the communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills needed to guide Los Angeles to a more sustainable future. Through independent and collaborative projects, students are catalyzing a new wave of transformative research and innovation right here at UCLA.
The program partners undergraduate students with campus mentors to work towards improving UCLA campus sustainability and was first offered in the 2014-15 academic year. Since then, undergraduate research scholars have participated in many innovative research projects including: informing UCLA Transportation of efficient bike rack infrastructure to promote bicycle use, evaluating campus energy use associated with lighting stairwells, and gathering information on campus bathroom water use.
Donations received via the crowdfunding campaign will be instrumental in developing future sustainability leaders. The platform offers tiered giving options. Learn more and make a donation of any size at spark.ucla.edu/SustainableLA.
