UCLA Sustainable LA Grand Challenge director Cassie Rauser was featured on Spectrum News 1’s “Inside the Issues with Alex Cohen” on September 30, 2019 to preview the upcoming 2019 Environmental Report Card on Water for Los Angeles County. The report card offers a comprehensive analysis of the region’s efforts to move toward a more resilient and sustainable local water supply.

During the segment, Rauser acknowledged that the City and County have not made significant improvements in their water supply and consumption since UCLA issued its last environmental report card in 2015, and received an overall grade of “C+” on the latest report card. Rauser emphasized that “in order for the water supply to be more resilient, it will need to be more local.”

While the overall demand for water in the County has decreased since 2000, changing climate patterns will make it more difficult for the County to manage its water consumption. Rauser also shared that Los Angeles’ drinking water quality received one of the highest grades on the report card, receiving a “B+.”
