Ethan Elkind, director of the Climate Change and Business Research Initiative of UC Berkeley and UCLA Schools of Law, was featured on KPCC’s AirTalk segment discussing the California Green New Deal Act. California Democratic legislators introduced the California Green New Deal Act on January 6. It aims to set ambitious goals for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the creation of more affordable housing, and the reduction of income inequality in the state.

Elkind said that the goals of the bill were incredibly important but acknowledged that some of the goals would require separate legislation and funding sources. Elkind emphasized that the bill’s housing goals will be difficult to achieve. “It’s not going to be done through an explicit ‘Green New Deal’ process,” said Elkind.  “It’s got to be about the state reforming our governance structure about housing.”
