Sustainable LA Grand Challenge (SLA GC) faculty director Eric Hoek and director Cassie Rauser discuss the next chapter in the initiative in a Daily Bruin profile.
The article describes Hoek’s background, which includes being one of the original founders of the SLA GC and founding and serving as CEO of the water technology company Water Planet. “[Hoek] knows how to take research and apply it to solving really critical complicated and technological problems,” Rauser said.
With Los Angeles County adopting the ambitious OurCounty sustainability plan, part of the work for SLA GC going forward is helping the county meet the plan’s goals, Hoek said.
“This [challenge] actually serves as a model for other academic institutions, other cities, megacities around the world that say, well, if they can do it in L.A., we can probably do it pretty much anywhere,” Hoek said.
