Jon Christensen, adjunct assistant professor and journalist-in-residence in the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, penned an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times about efforts to revitalize the Ballona wetlands. The state’s restoration plan has fueled a debate within L.A.’s environmental community between eco-engineers and “leave-nature-alone types.”
Christensen argues that the two feuding camps of environmentalists should come to a consensus to prevent the further delay of the revitalization efforts. “The longer we fight over Ballona, the longer it will be before anyone, including nonhuman Angelenos, enjoys the benefits of restoring this severely degraded landscape,” writes Christensen.
