The UCLA Sustainable LA Grand Challenge (SLA GC) is pleased to announce a request for applications to its inaugural Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Fellows Program, taking place during Summer 2021 and Academic Year 2021-22.
We are seeking passionate, innovative and highly motivated graduate students to work with UCLA faculty mentors in partnership with external partners to discover and co-develop sustainable interventions that center on improving equity, diversity and inclusion in the Los Angeles region.
This year’s external partners include:
• City of L.A.’s Climate Emergency Mobilization Office
• L.A. County Chief Sustainability Office
• L.A. Metro Chief Sustainability Office and Office of Equity & Race
The SLA GC EDI Fellows Program is intended to support UCLA graduate students from any discipline. Project ideas may be as diverse as the disciplines from which they come, and we welcome ideas ranging from identifying and quantifying equity metrics to an art piece, mural, play or poem focused on equity in urban sustainability — and everything in between.
Desirable deliverables would be ones that contribute to advancing equity, regional sustainability goals and deepen SLA GC’s relationship with external partners. We anticipate funding up to three fellows. Black, Indigenous and People of Color, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, members of ethnic minorities, foreign-born residents and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be enrolled as a graduate student (Doctorate or Master’s) in good standing at UCLA from any department or unit. For more information on how to apply, the terms and selection criteria, please visit the Application Toolkit.
The Sustainable LA Grand Challenge (SLA GC) empowers UCLA faculty, students and staff to work across disciplines in partnership with real world stakeholders to discover, co-develop and implement innovative solutions to transform Los Angeles to the most sustainable megacity by 2050. Our vision is for Los Angeles to be the most livable, equitable, resilient, clean and healthy megacity, and an example for the world.
The deadline for applications is Monday, May 3, 2021. Apply here now, and we look forward to reviewing your applications.
